Nowadays, huge amounts of Copernicus data come to the earth. They are freely available in the cloud, and many people have great ideas on how to use them. However, designing, sizing, deploying and maintaining cost-efficient computing platforms for processing large amount of data in the cloud is not an easy game. It requires highly skilled personnel, efficient designing and maintenance approaches... and often repetitive manual operations have to be done. Further, cloud providers offer a large multitude of types of (virtual) machines, with very different computing power and very different cost per hour, thus users are forced to navigate in the maze of up to hundreds types of machines for finding the most cost-efficient ones for each task.
Lockless, with the support of Copernicus Incubation Programme, is designing XClouder, a smart tool that automatizes and makes cost-efficient the processing of satellite data hosted in the cloud. XClouder will allow users to take advantage of its capabilities of minimizing the cost of data processing by selecting the most cost-efficient cloud resources, and will free them from the burden of performing onerous technical management tasks. In this way, it will facilitate the scale up of the users’ businesses, supporting the efficient generation of application and services that leverage Copernicus data.
